Feeling a little “off” lately?

Last week my massage therapist noticed that I wasn’t quite myself.  “Your energy is low. I could tell the minute you walked in.” I responded as most of us would. “I have a lot on my mind.” He told me that Mercury is in retrograde and it is affecting a lot of people this month. I don’t know much about astrology but I kept thinking about this and how it relates to health.

A few days later I was listening to a talk about balance, and it hit me. I have a lot on my mind. Holistic health is about the balance of mind, body and spirit. The “mind” part of my health has been heavy, and it was dragging me down. The journey of life has unexpected twists and turns, and I have let worry get the better of me. I need more balance.

The reason that I love health coaching is that it is client-directed. Listening closely to the client reveals amazing information. Most clients know that something is “off.” Many times we think it is physical, and many times it is. Our bodies respond to stress in physiological ways. Headaches, fatigue, irritable bowel, depression, back pain, weight gain, high blood pressure… these may be physiological symptoms to emotional imbalance.

But don’t fret… This is actually good information! Once we understand what is “off balance,” we can start to heal. By tending to the areas of health that we’ve been neglecting, we can restore balance and offset what has been weighing us down. Taking care of our physical health is one way to do this. Finding an activity that excites the soul is another.
